Theatre in Our Schools Month 2023

Theatre in Our Schools Month 2023

March is Theatre in Our School's Month!

Thank you for your support of the Riverdale Ridge Theatre Company and theatre education at RRHS!

Already this year, we have produced fissures (lost and found) with almost 20 students participating. This experimental piece of theatre placed the audience onstage with the performers and provided the participating students with a whole new range of experiences to learn from.

In November, RRTC performed our hit production of The SpongeBob Musical. This production was a surefire crowd pleaser for all as it explores deep themes of community and self-discovery through the lens of the wacky world of Bikini Bottom. With 60+ students participating onstage and off, this show gave all students the challenging experiences that make theatre so valuable.

In December, 13 of our top students traveled to the Colorado State Thespian Conference in Denver, Colorado to compete with 4000 other Colorado theatre students. All Riverdale Ridge students who attend the conference compete in Individual Events at the state level. These events are both performer and technician focused. This year, we had four students qualify for Nationals with their Individual Events. We also had our Senior Stage Manager receive the top technical theatre award and scholarship. They plan to study Stage Management at the collegiate level. Additionally, we are excited to share that one of our Ravens has just been named as a Colorado State Thespian Officer for the 23/24 school year.

In March, our students will present William Shakespeare’s most famous comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. We have 44 students participating in onstage and offstage roles.

We will close out the school year with our Student Directed One Act Festival. This production is a completely student-run process. Students select and vision plays to direct, cast performers, and collaborate with designers and crew members to produce their own theatre.

In addition to our after school opportunities, all students at Riverdale Ridge High School now have access to an expanded pathway in CTE course offerings. Students can study technical theatre in preparation for careers in the entertainment industry after leaving high school. Skills and knowledge in Lighting and electrical work, costume and scenic design, sound mixing, and more are covered in these courses.

Theatre education at RRHS is a robust and comprehensive experience for students.
