Theatre Courses
Riverdale Ridge Theatre Courses
Participation in the Riverdale Ridge Theatre Company after-school productions is not connected to school-day course offerings. Students may take classes without participating in the after-school program and they may participate in the after-school program without taking course work. They may also do both.
The Performance Track courses are offered as Fine Arts credits.
These Humanities courses develop students' communication and interpersonal skills through planned improvisational scene work and an exploration of theatre skills and knowledge.
Students in these classes will be given safe opportunities to test out their public speaking and storytelling skills as they learn to collaborate with peers.
Theatre I - FA150
Theatre I is an introductory performance theatre course. Students in this class will spend their time exploring the basics of storytelling and theatre.
Performances are eased into through low-level theatre and improv games as students develop their performance skills.
Theatre II - FA255
Theatre II is an extension of the Theatre I curriculum. Students will take their basic skills and knowledge and begin to learn how to make choices and make performances that communicate meaning. Students will experience a variety of roles in the theatre during this class.
Auditioned Theatre - FA367A
Auditioned Theatre is an ADVANCED theatre course that gives students the opportunity to develop collaborative production skills. The course content will shift and adjust each time it is offered pending student interests. Students may take this course multiple times.
The Technical Track courses are offered as Career & Technical Education (CTE) credits.
These courses develop students' knowledge & skills for backstage and event production through hands on application in the theatre spaces.
Students in these classes will be trained on both the design and philosophy as well as technical expertise in order to prepare them, should they wish, to enter into a career in film, tv, theatre, or events.
Foundations of Design - MM100A
Foundations of Design is an introductory "survey" course intended to introduce students to a variety of design skills. This course is the prerequisite for the Technical Theatre CTE track and several Visual Arts CTE tracks. This course will be taught by various theatre or visual arts teachers.
Technical Theatre- MM360
Technical Theatre is a course focused on the introduction of technical theatre skills. Students will learn about the careers and opportunities in tech theatre through hands-on experiences with scenic design, lighting design, sound design, etc.
Stage & Production Management - MM460
Stage & Production Management is an ADVANCED theatre course focused on producing live events. Students will learn how to manage live events through career exploration. This course will prepare students for the Capstone course in Technical Theatre (coming in 24/25).
