Dear Prospective and Returning Ravens and Families,

On behalf of the RRHS Counseling Team, we are pleased to share the key information you’ll need for a smooth and successful transition to next year. Inside this packet, you’ll find details about 4 year planning, course selection, graduation requirements, and additional resources to support your journey.

Timeline & Process

Winter Break	Community update to all students and feeder school - course selection guide, MyAp information, 9th grade course card
January 6-16	In advisory - optional activities to support students exploring courses
January 20-22	During advisory - class meetings focused on course options
January 28	Check it out night focused on course offering AND 9th grade course cards due
February 2	9-11 grades advisory presentation on MyAp
February 3-20	Individual check ins with students by advisory teacher to review progress and MyAp
February 20	Final day for students to change their MyAp

Students who open enroll to RRHS will be provided more information upon acceptance.

Academic Progress (current RRHS students)

Rising 9th Grade

Incoming 9th-grade students to RRHS and their guardians should carefully review all materials to make informed course selections for their first year. Freshmen are the only Ravens who finalize a one-year plan initially. Once they’ve had a chance to settle in, each student will meet with their counselor in the spring of their freshman year to map out their remaining high school coursework. We are asking all incoming freshmen to complete this course card and return it to RRHS during Check-It-Out Night. RRHS will provide blank course cards to all 27J middle schools to be distributed by 8th grade counselors. If you’re unable to attend our Check-It-Out Night, we ask that you return your completed course card to your 27J 8th grade counselor.

Course Information

Our 2026–2027 Course Selection Guide outlines the classes offered at Riverdale Ridge High School. It also provides detailed information on the details for meeting graduation requirements. We recommend paying close attention to the table of contents that link to the RRHS Graduation Requirements. This section provides options at RRHS for students to fulfill their additional requirements of graduation demonstrations. Specific information for college classes, AP classes and courses requiring an application or audition can be found here.

Selecting Classes

At RRHS, we use Infinite Campus to help students plan their academic journey throughout high school. Students “map” out their courses, and advisors review these plans with them annually. Each year, students also have the opportunity to update or change their course selections for future years. To see what our students receive in advisory, you are invited to review this information.

Schedule Changes | 26/27 NEW PROCESS

Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, RRHS will be transitioning to a schedule repair only process and will no longer offer general schedule changes. This update allows us to better balance class sizes and honor student course requests using a true first requested model.
As students select courses during advisory, we encourage them to choose thoughtfully, as schedules will remain in place once finalized.

Schedule adjustments will be made only to correct errors, not to change classes, periods, or teachers. This includes requests for off periods, even when related to athletics or outside employment.

Open Enrollment

What to do if RRHS isn’t your home schoolFor families who wish to enroll at Riverdale Ridge but for whom RRHS is not your home school, you will need to apply through Open Enrollment. Our Open Enrollment window for district 27J will open on January 6th at midnight- we encourage you to check the district website at that time to complete your application. Please note that space at RRHS under Open Enrollment is limited.

Check It Out Night

Join us for our annual Check It Out Night-an open house designed for incoming students and families to explore everything Riverdale Ridge has to offer!

Learn about our Academic programs, discover extracurricular Activities, and connect with coaches and sponsors of Athletic teams. Whether you're curious about classes, clubs, or competition, this is your chance to ask questions, meet staff, and start picturing your place at The Ridge.

On January 28, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., RRHS will host our annual Check-It-Out Night.

This is a great opportunity to explore our school’s programs, meet teachers, and tour our building. The RRHS Counseling Team will also provide a brief overview of course offerings. We hope to see you there!
