By participating in the Graduation Ceremony, you agree to the following expectations and guidelines.  Please remember that Graduation is a formal and dignified ceremony, honoring you, your family, your classmates, and the entire Riverdale Ridge commUNITY.

Student Participant Requirements

• You have met all graduation requirements of 27J Public Schools.
• You have cleared all fines and fees through the senior check-out process.
• Caps and Gowns will not be issued until all financial obligations are met.
• You will wear the authorized cap, gown, cords (if any), and tassel over appropriate clothing.  You will not wear or carry anything that may alter your appearance and/or detract from the ceremony.  This includes wearing any unauthorized articles of clothing/decorations over your gown.  Cap decorations must follow the guidelines provided below. 
• You are expected to abide by the 27J Code of Conduct and Riverdale Ridge High School policies at all times while participating in the ceremony.  Violations may result in being removed from the ceremony or not being allowed to participate in the ceremony.  Being under the influence of alcohol, drugs and/or tobacco is not tolerated.
• If you display any misconduct before, during or after the ceremony, you will be required to leave the ceremony and venue immediately.  You will also be asked to schedule a conference with your parents/guardians/caregivers and Mr. Clark, school principal, after June 1st to receive your diploma.
• Please note: Riverdale Ridge High School does not condone any type of “senior prank.”  In addition to school sanctions, STUDENTS INVOLVED IN A SENIOR PRANK MAY FORFEIT THEIR PRIVILEGE OF PARTICIPATING IN THE GRADUATION CEREMONY. 
• Proper school behavior is expected--this is the Way of the Raven!

For All Participants (Family, Guests, Students, Staff, etc.)

• Graduation is not meant to be a party; it is a ceremony.
• Please dress appropriately.
• Please be respectful to all graduates and attendees.

• The caps, gowns and tassels are delivered in plastic bags

• Caps should be placed on your head so that the mortarboard is level.  The front is marked. Bobby pins may be helpful in securing your mortarboard. Here is a helpful video to see how it should look when you are wearing your cap.

• Raven scholars may wish to experiment with the hairdos that will work with the mortarboard.  You may find that the mortarboard is most secure when hair is worn “down”.

• Please take into consideration the following expectations when decorating your graduation cap.

  • It IS appropriate to put the following on your cap:

    • School spirit and/or connections to school sponsored activities/clubs/sports

    • Thanking a parent, grandparent, teacher, caregiver, coach, guardian, or someone important in your life.

    • Recognize the service branch you may be enlisting, the university you will be attending, career plans, or other post-secondary plans. 

  • ALL decorations MUST lay FLAT on the cap. Nothing can hang from your cap, or lay over the edges of your cap.  

  • ALL decorations must allow us to see beyond eye level.

  • Your cap CANNOT make noise. No bells, horns, or anything that makes noise.

  • NO objects such as signs, stuffed animals, bells, flowers, or any 3D object may rest on the cap.

  • Failure to follow these guidelines may result in REMOVAL FROM GRADUATION CEREMONY or covering of your cap if possible.

Helpful Tip On Cap Decorations from our Student Leaders: 
Fellow Seniors, we highly suggest you trace your cap onto cardboard and decorate the cardboard. In case you make a mistake you can start over with a new piece of cardboard. We will not furnish new caps if you mess yours up decorating. After you decorate it, stick it to your cap with double-sided tape or Velcro stickers. Velcro tape can be purchased at any fabric store, Target, Wal-Mart and throughout many CVS and Walgreens stores.

• Gowns need a light amount of pressing on a low setting. Please be sure to do this so that you look your best at the ceremony and in your photographs.
• Plan to put your gown on after you have checked in for the ceremony.
• The cap, gown and tassel are yours to keep.
• The only embellishments to the gown which are permitted are:
  • RRHS Issued cords, RRHS Issued medals, and cultural stoles

• Academic Honors: White Cord
  • Graduates with a 3.5 or above cumulative GPA
• Athletic Honors: Light Blue Cord
  • 3 years of Athletic Lettering in a single sport; one year of lettering must occur at Riverdale Ridge High School

• The tassel is to be worn over the right temple. It is appropriate to wear only one tassel. 
• Tassels should never be pinned or sewn; they should be permitted to hang naturally.
